Must Do

  • Get deliberately lost inside the walls — the UNESCO lanes are lovelier at night.
  • Coming from Marmaris, even a day trip pays off; but stay at least 2 nights.
  • Go to Tsambika beach; the monastery hilltop view is superb.

  • Climbing the Lindos acropolis at midday — go at 9am or after 5pm.
  • 'Fresh fish' signs on the Old Town main drag; side streets are more honest.
  • Faliraki's party strip if you're after a family holiday — choose knowingly.

Tips

  • Rent a car: the south (Prasonisi, Monolithos) is hard by public transport.
  • Windsurfers: two seas meet at Prasonisi — one of Europe's best spots.
  • The ferry from Turkey is quick through passport control, but don't miss the return slot.

  • Valley of the Butterflies (Petaloudes): millions of tiger moths June-September.
  • Kritinia Castle at sunset — Monolithos' lesser-known sibling.
